3 Types of Water Heaters

A good water heater is essential for many household tasks. When you choose a new water heater for your Georgetown, Delaware, home, look for an efficient model that’s the right size for your family. Storage Water Heaters

Storage water heaters are the most common, and they have insulated storage tanks that hold from 30 to 80 gallons of heated water. They’re powered by natural gas, propane, fuel oil, or electricity. The water always stays heated, so you’ll never have to wait for hot water. A gauge inside the tank reads the temperature and the unit comes on when the temperature drops. These water heaters are less expensive, but they use more energy than other types.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters, also called on-demand or instantaneous water heaters, heat water only when you need it, saving money and energy. However, they can only heat two to five gallons of water per minute. That means you may need more than one tankless unit if you have a large family that uses lots of hot water at once. Tankless water heaters are smaller than conventional water heaters and take up less storage space, making them a great choice for small homes.

Hybrid Water Heaters

Hybrid or heat pump water heaters have a small heat pump on top of the water heater. They’re more efficient than conventional water heaters. and they still have storage tanks so you won’t have to wait for hot water. The heat pump requires extra space, though, so you may need a ceiling that’s up to 7 feet high. You’ll also need an unconditioned area where the heat pump can absorb heat from the air.
